Alastair Robertson is a freelance journalist and author who writes a weekly country sports column for The Scotsman newspaper Saturday magazine. He published Robertson’s Guide to Field Sports in Scotland in 2013. ( Amazon and via this website) .He writes for the Daily Record under the name “Rantin’ Roamin’  Robbo” and under his own name for Marine Quarterly.

He worked for the Sunday Times in Scotland for 10 years and contributes to national newspapers and magazines including the Mail on Sunday, Daily Mail, The Sun, Daily Telegraph, Country Life and The Field.


He has shot, fished and stalked “badly” all his life.

An erratic if enthusiastic game cook his “signature dish” has been grandly dubbed “Fruits de Route en Croute”, better known to his family, all of whom survive, as “Road kill pie.”

He lives in Strathbogie, Aberdeenshire with his wife Kate, an artist, and Crumpet their Working Cocker Spaniel and her puppy Waffle. Their three children have fled. In his spare time he makes and flies kites.
